| The 2010 FIBA
World Championship will be hosted by Turkey from
August 28 to September 12, 2010. It is co-organized by the
International Basketball Federation (FIBA), Turkish
Basketball Federation and the 2 010 Organizing Committee For
the third time since 1986, the World Championship will have
24 competing nations, an increase from 16. As a result, the
groups are each playing in different cities :
Istanbul ,
Ankara
, Kayseri
and
Izmir ,
with the knockout round being hosted by
Istanbul. |

Hosting the event right after the
world’s greatest economies, USA (2002) and Japan (2006), is
extremely important for Turkey also from the perspective of
international reputation and prestige. This outstanding
basketball championship will consist of 80 games, and it is
expected to reach more than 150 countries and one billion
basketball fans. As a result, it will have major
contributions to the promotions and popularity of Turkey and
development of host cities in terms of infrastructure and
basketball legacy. |
| There will be 24 countries
present in Turkey, including the last champions Spain, the
Olympic gold medalist USA, Argentina, Serbia, Slovenia,
France, Greece, Brazil and host Turkey are just some of the
favorites to take home a medal, perhaps the gold.
